McMyler Dumper Information

NEW! Mcmyler Dumper Tee Shirts
These great tee shirts are being offered by Garden State Central Model Railroad Club (a 501c(3) non profit organization) to help in it's search for a new home. They lost their home of when the building they were in for 35 years was sold.

The tee shirt features a picture of the 2 Mcmylers that were on the CNJ Pier 18 at Jersey City

This tee shirt has the CNJ logo and the words "Jersey City Pier 18 'Big Mac' McMyler Dumper" on the front and a picture of a 1957 CNJ ad about the dumpers on the back

The following is a brochure that was the inspiration for the above tee shirts. It is a 1957 advertisement hailing the newest improvements made on Pier 18. The brochure is from the Bob Judge collection.

Pictures from 1997 of the dumper model being built at the Garden State Central Model Railroad club.

A 1951 story on the CNJ "Big Mac" McMyler dumpers at Jersey City including how it was operated.

I find these machines fascinating and I have built an operating scale model of one at the Garden State Central Model Railroad Club in HO scale. My friend and fellow modeler Jim Judge and I have also added a video of the dumper model in action on YouTube. See the video

In 2000 we took the HO model to Liberty State Park, close to the original location of the Big Mac McMyler dumpers on Pier 18 in Jersey City. We had a great time photographing the dumper with the Statue of Liberty as a backdrop. See the video

These are pictures taken by myself and other members of the Garden State Central Model Railroad Club on our annual New Years Day trip. It was Jan. 1, 1997. The dumper was abandoned and had not been used since sometime in the 70s.
